I’m Trevor Mauss.

I’m interested in a simple question: What if technology helped us become more human?

Much of my life has been shaped by experiences of suffering, faith, mental illness, recovery, and the strange grace of discovering that a human life cannot be reduced to a problem that needs solving.

Those experiences changed the questions I ask about technology.

I’m especially interested in artificial intelligence, not simply because of what it can do, but because of what it might do to us — how it shapes our attention, relationships, agency, nervous systems, children, communities, and understanding of what it means to be human.

I’m exploring what it might look like to build technology differently: technology that strengthens rather than replaces human capacities; that knows when to help and when to become quiet; that makes more room for attention, courage, relationship, wonder, prayer, and presence in the real world.

Underneath all of this is my Christian faith and a conviction I keep returning to:

Human beings are not machines to optimize. They are persons to love.

This site is a place for me to think out loud about those questions — imperfectly, hopefully, and in public.
